Jenny de Vries – Occupational Therapist
Jenny has earned degrees in Bachelor of Psychology & Biology and Bachelor of Health Sciences Occupational Therapy (B.H.Sc. OT) from Wilfrid Laurier University and McMaster University. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists and a Professional Affiliate of McMaster University. In addition, Jenny has finished post-graduate studies to complete the USC/WPS Sensory Integration Certification (University of Southern California/ Western Psychological Services). She also is certified in Therapeutic Listening and a Kinesiotape Practionner. Jenny has advanced training in the area of pediatric feeding and swallowing.
Jenny has worked with well over 1000 families in the Cowichan Valley since moving here in 2006, ranging in age from birth to adulthood. She is well networked across the province with tertiary facilities and Specialists. Jenny worked at the Sundrops Centre for Child Development for 8 years in addition to her private practice. For the past four years, she has continued to expand her practice by consulting regularly to local and remote First Nations communities.
Before moving to the Cowichan Valley from Ontario, Jenny spent 5 years in a private practice consulting to several of the major automotive plants both aiding in health department re-structuring and working with injured workers. She has also worked in acute care/ ICU, consulted as an ergonomic specialist to a hospital & completed cost of future care and workplace assessment for auto accident clients.
Jenny is passionate about sharing what she knows with others. Throughout her career she has presented a variety of workshops to professionals & caregivers in addition to being a Clinical Educator and Clinical Preceptor for OT university students. In 2016, Jenny is in India as a Preceptor.
Jenny brings passion and joy to her work with children and their families. She is empathetic, gentle and kind. When working with her, you can expect assessment and intervention with a strong neurological focus. Jenny strives for children and families to enjoy life, feel good about who they are and believe in their abilities.
